Preceptorship Training

AGI's Preceptorships are the heart of the Certification Training Program. Each live 3-day Preceptorship offers 26 hours of intensive immersion in the principles and practice of Interactive Guided Imagerysm.

At Preceptorships, you will have the opportunity to see a variety of unique and individual guiding approaches under the skilled tutelage of Academy faculty members. You will also share personal experiences with small groups of Certification candidates to gain a deeper understanding of the techniques and principles taught in our Advanced Workshops.

Preceptorship Curriculum

Each day, the Preceptorship begins with an in-depth discussion and/or demonstration of a core Interactive Guided Imagerysm technique led by an experienced Academy faculty member. This is followed by smaller group sessions where you will have the opportunity to develop your clinical skills as an Imagery Guide. You will also benefit from experiencing the unique perspectives of being both a client and an observer, as well as the feedback from debriefing each imagery experience.

Satisfactory completion of FIGI, ATS/1A, and ATS/1B is a required pre-requisite for enrolling in Preceptorship I. Techniques taught include Advanced Work with the Inner Advisor, Dialoguing With Symptoms, Evocative Imagery, and Grounding Techniques.

Satisfactory completion of ATS/2A and ATS/2B is a required pre-requisite for enrolling in Pre II. Although Pre II follows the same format as Pre I, it provides detailed instruction and supervision in utilizing some of the more advanced and powerful IGIsm tools. Techniques taught include Regression With The Inner Advisor, Parts Work & Conflict Resolution, Inner Child & The Essential Self, and The Search For Purpose.

Goals of Online Preceptorships

Students now attend the two live Preceptorships online using the latest video conferencing technologies, backed up by teleconferencing capabilities. This permits international students, those with disabilities, or ongoing family or work responsibilities to actively participate online with other students who are attending the workshops from locations around the world.

Time Requirements for Online Preceptorships

Students attending live Preceptorships should be prepared to spend from 7:30AM to 6:30PM on Friday and Saturday and from 8:00AM to 6:30PM (all Pacific times), although we frequently finish sooner. Although times can change depending upon what happens during each Preceptorship session, here is the schedule we do our best to follow:

This schedule is always subject to change depending upon how quickly we proceed through each part. There’s a lot of important material to cover, so plan to be online and on time according to the above schedule.

Technology Requirements for Online Preceptorships

Students attending Preceptorships online must become thoroughly familiar with the online video conferencing technology needed to participate (see www.zoom.us). This includes the following requirements:

(1) Have a computer with high speed internet access
(2) Have a webcam and USB headset, and…
(3) Become familiar with using both.

We recommend that you contact friends, colleagues, or family members and practice video conferencing with them using Zoom.us, Skype, FaceTime, and/or Google+ Hangouts. During the Preceptorship, you must also have access to a telephone line for audio teleconferencing as backup in case of a technical failure.

All students attending online Preceptorships for the first time will meet five days before the program for a brief “dress rehearsal” to insure that all technology is functioning properly. During this meeting, each online student must demonstrate their familiarity with using the video conferencing technology, so be well prepared. An IT specialist will be available to problem solve, if needed.

At those times, you will be sent an invitation from train@acadgi.com with a link that will connect you online with faculty and other students using www.zoom.us. There is no additional charge for using this online service during all Academy online meetings.

Online Preceptorship students must remain present online and participate during all scheduled sessions unless excused from specific sessions by the course instructor for religious or other appropriate reasons.

If all available technology fails, online students may make-up any lost workshop time by conferencing directly with an Academy faculty member, or by joining the next preceptorship during the missed portion.

Preceptorship Precautions

AGI recognizes that the possibility exists during its trainings for exposure to powerful psychological contents including memories, fantasies, emotions, and physical reactions to all the above. AGI provides designated, skilled facilitators at each training that are available in case of psychological emergency during the training period.

At the same time, AGI strongly encourages all participants going through Certification training to have an established relationship with a competent therapist, preferably one with knowledge of imagery and symbolic process, who can be called on in case there is any overwhelming, threatening, or difficult emergence of material and affect.

Cancellations and Refunds

Due to the value of the limited spaces available, you must give one month's prior notice if you cancel attendance at a Preceptorship in which you have enrolled. There will be no additional charge to you if AGI is notified more than 30 days in advance.

With less than 30 day's notice, AGI will charge you a $100 processing fee and attempt to fill your spot with another student. If AGI cannot fill your spot (which is quite possible due to the longer planning needs of most professionals), you will be charged $375 (one-half regular) additional tuition to re-register for a future Preceptorship.
